Department of Music
About the Department
At Wayne State College, we foster the development of musical talent and prepare you for careers in music industry, music education, and music performance. If you love music, but are not pursuing a major, you can add a Music minor to your degree plan. Wayne State provides a rich musical experience for all students and contributes to the musical life of the college, community, and state.
Whether pursuing a Music degree program or taking part in music as a participant, you have many opportunities to be in ensembles. Instrumental ensembles include Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and small chamber ensembles. Choral ensembles include the large Concert Choir, small Chamber Choir, Lyrica Choir (soprano/alto), and Fortis Choir (tenor/bass). Additionally, you can hone your craft individually in private piano, voice, and various instrumental lessons with expert instructors.
At Wayne State, Peterson Fine Arts is home to spacious new state-of-the-art choir and band rooms filled with natural light and treated acoustically for peak performance. Peterson also houses numerous classrooms and practice rooms designed to help develop your musical talents. Wayne State has excellent performance venues including the 700-seat Ramsey Theatre contained the Lied Performing Arts Center and the historic 300-seat Ley Theatre in the Brandenburg Education Building, a perfect venue for faculty and student recitals, choir concerts, and other chamber ensemble performances.
We are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

“The music faculty are so extremely talented, and they have faculty recitals, so we get to see their talent, which is amazing. I just love being able to have the chance to perform myself. We have student recitals every week, which gives students a chance to perform. I love going to concerts here because they're just beautiful, every one.”
