A native of rural Minnesota, Dr. Sarah Farr is a music professor at Wayne State College, where she teaches voice and voice-related courses. Before joining the WSC faculty, she taught at Doane College in Crete, Neb., and Concordia University in Seward, Neb.

Dr. Farr’s past operatic roles include Gertrude in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Hippolyta in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Count Orlofsky in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and Ruth in Gilbert and Sulivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. Her recent performances focus on collaborations with living composers, specifically in the creation of new chamber works for the Trio Mezzklarno ensemble. Trio Mezzklarno is a WSC faculty trio including Farr, Dr. Karl Kolbeck (clarinet), and Dr. Angela Miller-Niles (piano). Trio Mezzklarno has collaborated with a number of composers, including Kurt Knecht, Evan Fein, Howard Buss, and Rick Sowash.

Farr teaches both in both classical and musical theater styles. Her teaching focuses on healthy vocal production and fostering the individuality of each voice. Her students regularly participate in state and regional NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competitions; regularly advancing to the final round of competition. Several of her students have also advanced to the national level of the NATS competition.
