We are proud to serve those who serve.
Whether you're transitioning to a civilian career or rising in the ranks, Wayne State College is an excellent choice for service members, military spouses, and their dependents. We are committed to your success and providing you a smooth transition to campus.
As a current military member or veteran, you'll follow the standard application procedure relevant to your educational background. Whether it's your first time in college, you are coming back to finish your education, or you're looking to earn an advanced degree, we are here to support you.
Benefits for military students
Current and former service members may receive college credit for prior education or military experience acquired while in service to our country. This means you could spend less time and money in earning your degree.
Service personnel may receive credit for the same CLEP exams through DANTES that WSC accepts through the College Board and Educational Testing Service. DANTES funds CLEP exam fees for eligible test takers. Service members are eligible for this benefit. Visit the DANTES/CLEP website for more details on eligibility.
All students receiving veterans administration benefits receive priority registration for fall and spring semesters. That means you get to be in the first group of students to register for classes.
Wayne State College recognizes and appreciates the important contributions made by military students in service to our country. In support of these students, the College has developed procedures to provide each student with maximum flexibility in the event the student is called to active duty.
A Military Friendly® School
We are proud to be named a Military Friendly® School for our commitment in creating meaningful benefits for military students and veterans. For 2024-25, WSC received the Silver Award. Only a select group of institutions achieve this designation.

Financial assistance for military students
There are several ways military members and veterans can receive assistance in paying for college, including the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Program, the G.I. Bill, and the Yellow Ribbon Program.
- Military Tuition Assistance Program: If you qualify for the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Program, your service branch pays tuition directly to Wayne State College, which can be used for undergraduate and graduate programs, either online or on campus.
- G.I. Bill: The G.I. Bill helps qualifying veterans and their family members get money to cover all or some of the costs for school or training.
- Yellow Ribbon Program: The Yellow Ribbon Program can help you pay for higher out-of-state, private school, foreign school, or graduate school tuition and fees that the Post-9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover.
Scholarships for military members or veterans and their families include:
Kam Reeves Military Annual Scholarship: The Kam Reeves Military Annual Scholarship provides scholarship money to students that meet the following qualifications:
- Full-time student at Wayne State College
- Full-time active military, retired military, or in ROTC or National Guard programs
You will apply for the Kam Reeves scholarship via our scholarship portal.
American Legion Legacy Scholarship: The American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship provides college scholarship money to children of post-9/11 veterans who died in active duty, or have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. Apply Nov. 15 - April 15.
Dependents of service members and veterans can also receive assistance through the Waiver of Tuition for Nebraska Dependents, Dependent and Survivor Assistance, and the transferring of Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits.
- Waiver of Tuition for Nebraska Dependents: The Waiver of Tuition for Nebraska Dependents (NDVA) is available for dependents of eligible veterans at Wayne State College, waiving 100% of tuition charges and tuition-related fees.
- Dependent and Survivor Assistance (USVA): If you’re the child or spouse of a veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or has disabilities, you may be able to get help paying for school or job training through the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program, also called Chapter 35.
- Post 9/11 G.I. Bill Benefits Transfer: The Department of Defense (DoD) decides whether you can transfer any of your unused Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits to your family. You can transfer education benefits if you’re on active duty or in the Selected Reserve and you meet the eligibility requirements.
