  • Students who have earned college credits outside the United States must have a course-by-course evaluation of their credits done by an accredited NACES member for transcript evaluation. SpanTran is our recommended evaluation service. SpanTran has created a custom application for Wayne State College that will make sure you select the right kind of evaluation at a discounted rate. International students entering WSC may be required to enroll in transitional courses based on these evaluation services. This is to ensure that students have the appropriate background required to be successful in their program.

  • The admissions process for our master's degree and graduate programs depends on whether you are enrolling in an online program, or an on-campus program.

Please note that per U.S. immigration regulations, international students who are living within the U.S. may not eligible to complete some of our online graduate programs. Only one class or three credits during each term or semester may count toward a full course of study for an F-1 student if the class is taken online or through distance learning. Students living overseas; however, may complete our online graduate programs while residing in their home country. For more information on immigration status requirements for post-secondary education, please review the U.S. Department of Homeland Security website.

Federal financial aid

Most foreign citizens are not eligible for federal student aid from the U.S. Department of Education. There are, however, some instances in which non-citizens may be eligible for financial aid from the U.S. federal government.

You can also check with your country’s government to see what aid they might be able to offer you, or explore scholarships to help you pay for college.

Resources for becoming an international student

    • Study in the States, a website by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, provides clear, easy-to-follow language that helps all students to understand and comply with federal regulations.

Prospective and current F or M students can use information and resources on this website to learn about the process for becoming an international student and the rules for studying in the United States as an international student. Wayne State College is a SEVP-certified F-1 school.

Visit Study in the States to learn about this process

    • After being accepted to Wayne State College and getting a receipt for payment of the I-901 fee, you can apply for a visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.

Review the student visas page on travel.state.gov, as well as the instructions at the website of the embassy or consulate where you will apply for a visa.  After you receive your visa, check to see that you received the right type of visa and that your name and date of birth are correct and match the information in your passport.

    • While studying in the United States, it is important to maintain your F or M student status. Your status relates to the purpose, or reason, for why you want to come to the United States. The U.S. Department of State issues you your visa based on your intended purpose.

If the Department of State issues you an F or M student visa, this means that you are coming to the United States to study. You should not take any action that detracts from that purpose.

    • F-1 students are eligible for curricular practical training (CPT) at either the undergraduate or the graduate level during the program of study. CPT employment must be an integral part of an established curriculum and the position must directly relate to your major area of study.

F-1 students are also eligible for optional practical training during or following the program of study. OPT is a form of temporary employment that directly relates to your program of study.

The Career Services Office at Wayne State can help you find practical training employment opportunities while you are here.
