International Graduate Admission Procedures
All international graduate students must complete the following steps and/or submit the materials listed below. Please note that per U.S. immigration regulations, international students who are living within the U.S. may not eligible to complete some of our online graduate programs. Only one class or three credits during each term or semester may count toward a full course of study for an F-1 student if the class is taken online or through distance learning. Students living overseas; however, may complete our online graduate programs while residing in their home country. For more information on immigration status requirements for post-secondary education, please review the U.S. Department of Homeland Security website.

Step 3: Provide evidence of language skills
Wayne State requires a high level of proficiency in English. This helps ensure that students who speak English as a second language are able to participate fully in college life, both in and out of class. In order to demonstrate proficiency, the following minimum scores are required for admission consideration:
TOEFL score requirements:
- Internet-Based Test: 79
- Computer-Based Test: 213
- Paper-Delivered Test: Wayne State will determine acceptance
IELTS score requirements:
- Minimum Score: 6.5
Notes:
- You can substitute the TOEFL or IELTS with an ACT or SAT score report.
- Official evidence of English language skills must come directly from the testing agency.
- ESL and intensive English language instruction is available through community colleges within a one-hour drive of Wayne State College.
Step 4. Provide proof of financial support
Evidence of support to finance a program of study without assistance from WSC. Download the Financial Resources Certification Form. This form must be filled out completely and correctly. Study in a foreign country always requires careful financial planning. International students accepted by WSC may enter the United States with an F-1 student visa. In accordance with U.S. Immigration Law, I-20 or F-1 visas can be issued only to persons who are pursuing a full-time course of study at an American college or university. Certificates of eligibility for visas cannot be issued until the student has proven ability to provide full financial support for the entire stay in this country. To obtain a certificate of eligibility, the Office of Admissions must be provided with official documents showing the source of funds for the entire period of study.
Step 5. Submit test scores
An official score report for any required standardized test for graduate study (GRE or GMAT) is required prior to admission.
Step 6. Submit a handwritten statement
A two-page handwritten (not typed) statement of educational intent and interests. Download and print our template, write your essay, scan and submit with your application materials.
Step 7. Submit letters of recommendation
It is important that a recommendation letter be written by someone who knows your academic capabilities. Professors (faculty members) are the most common choice to write a letter of recommendation; however, other professionals who know you well and have supervised your academic work or research are also appropriate choices.
Note: Although a student may have a bachelor’s degree from a foreign country, the student may not be considered a graduate student. Determination of status is based on the recommendations and reports of professional and certified evaluation services (i.e., Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), World Education Services (WES), etc.). International students entering a graduate program at WSC may be required to enroll in transitional courses based on these evaluation services. This is to ensure that students have the appropriate undergraduate background required to be successful in their graduate program.
