Disability Services Office

Wayne State College is home to a unique and diverse student population and is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive campus environment for students. We are deeply committed to ensuring equal access and opportunity for students with disabilities in and outside class - whether it’s a physical disability, learning disability, chronic health condition, mental health condition, temporary injury, or other condition. The Disability Serivces Office is managed by the Disability Services Coordinator who organizes the provision of reasonable accommodations and support services for student with disabilities.

How to request accommodations

Types of disabilities

While some disabilities are apparent or “visible,” most of the students who receive services from Disability Services have hidden or “invisible” disabilities.

Examples of disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquired brain injury
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Blind or visual impairment
  • Deaf or hearing impairment
  • Intellectual disability
  • Mobility impairments
  • Psychiatric disability
  • Specific learning disabilities
  • Speech or language impairment
  • Systemic disability

Temporary disabilities

The Disability Services Office also provides accommodations for students experiencing temporary disabilities. Temporary disabilities are injuries or conditions of short duration with little to no long-term or permanent impact. Temporary conditions may arise from an extended illness, surgery, broken limbs, sprained joints, concussions, etc.
