Dr. Evan LeBouef is a composer, jazz bassist, educator, and music technologist, and he teaches music theory at Wayne State College. His work as a composer and performer draws from jazz, contemporary concert music, rock, electronic music, and multimedia, with a focus on creating music that is both expressive and accessible.
LeBouef earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Composition from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he was a Hixson-Lied Doctoral Fellow. His dissertation, Sister Suite, is an eight-movement work for jazz orchestra, strings, vocalists, and media that explores family, memory, and personal history. His other compositions include Protest Suite: My Fellow Americans, The Digital World, The Golden Triangle, and works for jazz ensembles, chamber groups, and solo performers.
LeBouef's teaching interests include jazz, theory, composition, arranging, music technology, and interdisciplinary approaches to music education. He has worked with students at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels and regularly presents clinics and guest lectures. LeBouef is also an active bassist, composer, recording engineer, and producer. His work in music technology includes recording, live sound, DAW production, multimedia performance, and audio-visual infrastructure. His professional activities include work with the Jazz Education Network, the International Society for Jazz Arranging and Composition, ASCAP, Phi Mu Alpha, the Society of Composers, Inc., and the Texas Music Educators Association.
LeBouef is particularly interested in the intersection of composition, technology, and contemporary music-making. His research explores home recording technology and practices from 2000 to 2025, as well as the ways affordable technology has changed how musicians compose, record, produce, and distribute music. Through his creative and educational work, he continues to explore ways technology, contemporary composition, and accessible pedagogy can expand opportunities for musicians and students.
