Wayne State College has earned a solid reputation for outstanding performing arts programs. Thousands of patrons attend concerts, plays, musicals, and other cultural events each year.
Instrumental Music
Whether you are a music major or just want to play an instrument as an extracurricular activity, we've got a variety of bands and ensembles to entertain. Instrumental groups include marching band, jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, mariachi band, chamber music, and symphonic band.
Vocal Music
If you love to sing, Wayne State offers several vocal performance opportunities throughout the year. Consider joining one of our choirs and sing a wide variety of music. There are also solo performance opportunities including local and regional competitions.
Theatre Performances
Explore a variety of possibilities through theatrical production. You'll have several opportunities throughout the year to act, direct, design sets and constumes, and work with special effects and lighting. Performance styles include musicals, plays, dance, opera, and children's theatre.
Wayne State College has three beautiful theatres to showcase your talent.
Ramsey Theatre
Ramsey Theatre, housed in the Lied Performing Arts Center, is the main performance venue and seats up to 560 spectators. It has a proscenium stage and offers opportunities for our actors and designers to accommodate their approaches for a larger space.
Ley Theatre
Ley Theatre is located in Brandenburg Hall and has fixed seating for 150, including a balcony view. Additional seats may be added to accommodate up to 220. Its nostalgic aesthetic is preserved for smaller performances and educational use.
Black Box Theatre
Seating approximately 70, the Black Box offers a more intimate environment between performers and audience and allows our directors and designers to reconfigure the theatre space.
“The theatre program has helped me grow more and expand my knowledge. All of the instructors and professors really have a passion for what they are doing. Their outside experience helps us know what the real world will be like once we’re done with school.”
