Pre-Dental Hygiene Program

Pre-Dental Hygiene Program

About the Pre-Dental Hygiene Program

Dental hygienists work in a dentist office to assist in patient dental care. Their job is focused on preventative care and overall dental health, cleaning teeth, evaluating gums, and providing fluoride. They don’t need quite as much training as a dentist does, since a dentist performs more intricate dental work. The Pre-Dental Hygiene program at WSC is not an academic major, but instead a pathway to help you get into dental school. You'll complete two years here, and then transfer into the four-year bachelor's degree program in Dental Hygiene at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Neb., or other four-year dental hygiene program of your choice. In the Pre-Dental Hygiene track, we typically recommend students take biology or health sciences coursework to meet the prerequisites for dental school.
