The Academies
The Academies are programs aimed at assisting HLC members institutions to define, develop, and implement strategies for institutional improvement. The Academies provide a framework and guidance to address leading areas of concern in higher education. The programs are adaptive to the needs of the institution and support improvement within the context of an institution’s mission, vision, and goals.
Assessment of Student Learning Academy
The Assessment of Student Learning Academy offers HLC member institutions a four-year sequence of events and interactions that are focused on student learning, targeted at accelerating and advancing efforts to assess and improve student learning, and designed to build institution-wide commitment to assessment of student learning. Wayne State College was accepted to the Academy for Assessment of Student Learning in September 2007.
Persistence and Completion Academy
Wayne State College is committed to a four-year process whereby we intentionally focus on how to best define, track, and analyze data on student success; establish clear goals and strategies for student population groups; and achieve those goals.
The Persistence and Completion Academy was designed for institutions seeking to build institutional capacity for the improvement of persistence and completion. The academy introduces institutions to new techniques for researching and comparing emerging methods of evaluation and improvement. Institutions also learn how to collect and analyze data to identify patterns that lead to data-informed decisions. Wayne State College completed the Academy for Persistence and Completion in May 2018.
