Grants are need-based aid that does not have to be repaid. There are four types of federal grants available through Wayne State College:
- Federal PELL Grant (PELL)
- Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Nebraska Opportunity Grant (NOG)
- Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH)
To apply for the federal grants, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Federal PELL Grant
Federal PELL Grant funds are offered only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's degree or professional degree. These offers are determined by the federal government through its own methodology. Students must file the FAFSA.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant funds are offered to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need and are PELL Grant recipients. FSEOG is a limited fund; therefore, offers are made using the April 1 priority deadline.
Nebraska Opportunity Grant (NOG)
Nebraska Opportunity Grant funds are offered to undergraduate students who are Nebraska residents and have applied for federal financial aid through the FAFSA and are eligible for a Federal PELL Grant. Offers are made using the April 1 priority deadline.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH)
The U.S. Department of Education's Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH) Program provides funds to students who are completing or who plan to complete coursework that is required to begin a career in teaching, and who agree to teach full-time for at least four years as a highly qualified teacher in a high-need field and at a school servicing low-income students.
The four years of teaching must be completed within eight years after you complete or otherwise cease to be enrolled in the program for which you received a TEACH Grant. This teaching requirement is known as your TEACH Grant service obligation.
