Victory Bell

The victory bell tower, which stands southeast of the Brandenburg Education Building on campus, was erected by the Katz Club, dedicated in 1935, and first rung at the May commencement ceremony that year. The bell itself was actually one of the original fixtures on campus, signaling classes when J.M. Pile was president, Dr. U.S. Conn a teacher, and John G. Neihardt a student and the bell ringer.

Victory Bell

“Hail the Victory Bell and long may it peal out the tidings of Wildcat victories!” wrote the Spizzerinktum yearbook. “This historic bell, a symbol of sportsmanship and fellowship, was resurrected and presented to Wayne State Teachers College this year by the Katz to improve the school spirit and enthusiasm of the student body. It is to become a traditional part of the Campus, and may it long recall pleasant memories to those students who, from year to year, pass through the portals of Wayne to accept the challenge of a new life.”
