Hoffbauer Plaza

Campus Icons and Landmarks

Hoffbauer Plaza

Hoffbauer Plaza, located immediately south of the Student Center, encompasses 10,000 square feet and was dedicated during Homecoming 2003. The plaza serves many functions, in addition to being an attractive and functional passageway between the Student Center and other buildings.

A view of Hoffbauer Plaza

The plaza was named after Irv Hoffbauer, who transferred to Wayne State from Midland Lutheran College and graduated in 1951. Hoffbauer has been a generous donor, including funding an irrigation system and replanting of willow trees in the Willow Bowl – the campus landmark that first captured his attention and led him to become a student here.
