Veterans Memorial

The Veterans Memorial was originally dedicated in 1919 to honor six WSC alumni who lost their lives in combat during World War I. The six men whose valor is symbolized by six trees planted at the site include Anton Bastian, Clifford Benshoof, Raymond Laune, Irvan Lyons, George Nelson, and Roy Reed.

Veterans Memorial

Between 2012 and 2014, WSC art and design students participated in a service-learning project with Professor Steve Elliott to develop a plan to revitalize the memorial and expand the site to honor all veterans. Funding was provided by the Wayne State Foundation, along with the Dr. Mona Casady Campus Beautification Fund and Adrian ‘68 and Jon Minks, in honor of Jon’s father, Russell Minks, who served during World War II.
