Develop your craft
A place to tell your story
The level of excellence in our media programs comes from the passion of the students who have chosen to attend Wayne State. Student media and publications give students free rein to express their ideas, voices, and tell their stories while cultivating their skills and creativity. And, many of them compete in regional and national competitions to showcase their work, where they win awards for their talent and ultimately go on to successful careers in the field.
Showcase your talent
KWSC-TV
KWSC-TV provides students a simulated studio environment full of video production equipment used in the industry. Located in the Humanities building, our studios are a lab for producing television programs and short videos for KWSC-TV, our student-run cable channel. The station carries entertainment, sports, and news programming that supports our academic programs and informational needs of the campus and community.
Hot Attic Film Studios
The Hot Attic Film Studios, led by Dr. Michael White, produce several short films each year. The studios are located on the fourth floor of the Humanities building. You'll also find staff and crew filming at locations all over campus and within the community during production of their award-winning short films and features. The studios are fully equipped with industry-standard cinema equipment, a postproduction suite, and an advanced sound facility to develop Foley sound effects and surround sound.
KWSC-FM is the official radio station of Wayne State College. Known on the air as “Your Music Authority, 91.9 the Cat,” KWSC is a fully equipped broadcast radio station that operates 24 hours a day during the school year. The radio station is student managed and operated, providing hands-on experience on the air, in audio production, planning of special events and promotions, and in leadership (with guidance from a faculty adviser).
The Wayne Stater is a student-run publication that has served as a local news source for the college and Wayne community since 1911. The campus newspaper primarily serves as a workshop for journalism students; however, any student is welcome to join the staff and contribute their talents and learn new skills.

In my time at Wayne State, I’ve had the opportunity to write and produce short films that were eventually nominated for a film festival, and I have produced a weekly podcast where I’ve engaged in conversations with fellow students and faculty. Once my degree is complete, I would like to enter the workforce and gain more real-world broadcast experience, film experience, and eventually get involved in writing and producing short-form films.
