Wayne State's Student Newspaper

The Wayne Stater is a student-run publication that has served as a local news source for the college and Wayne community since 1911. The campus newspaper primarily serves as a workshop for journalism students; however, any student is welcome to join the staff and contribute their talents and learn new skills. Students gain experience in writing, editing, publishing, photography, news management, advertising, layout, and design.

The Wayne Stater online, along with the paper’s social media platforms, also provides students an opportunity to serve as webmasters and gain experience with online and social media. Students can serve on The Wayne Stater staff in various capacities: editor-in-chief, news, sports, lifestyle, online, or opinion page editor. There are also positions available as copy editors, graphic designers, and advertising salespersons.

Students involved with The Wayne Stater are deeply involved with activities in the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association (NCMA) and regularly host organizational events. The newspaper annually garners high honors at the NCMA’s Golden Leaf Awards, which reward Nebraska college journalists for their work. Student staff are also given opportunities to travel to regional and national conferences in cities such as St. Louis, Kansas City, and Chicago.
