Students won awards in three categories at the Nebraska Broadcasters Association's annual convention in August.
Wayne State College broadcasting and sports media students from KWSC-TV and KWSC-FM radio won Pinnacle Awards in three categories during the Nebraska Broadcasters Association’s (NBA) annual convention held Aug. 13.
"The NBA awards are great because they give college broadcasters a chance to show their work alongside the state’s best professional broadcast journalists,” said Patrick Janssen, assistant professor of communication arts at Wayne State. “The reaction our students’ work elicited from those highly accomplished professionals was really overwhelming.”
Hannah Aldridge of Madison, S.D., won the Best Promo (Radio) category for “KWSC Promo,” and John Campbell of Grand Island, Neb., won Best Promo (Television) for “Homecoming Promo.”
Aldridge, Andrew Reiss of Omaha, Neb., and Armando Alferez, Jr., of La Vista, Neb., won the Best Live Sports Event (Television) category for “CatTalk: Live from Rice Auditorium.”
“I am overjoyed to celebrate the hard work of our students at KWSC-FM and KWSC-TV,” said Dr. Sean X. Ahern, associate professor of communication arts at Wayne State. “They exhibit a level of commitment and professionalism that is truly astounding.”
The Pinnacle Awards program was established in 1958 to recognize and encourage excellence in broadcasting and service to the community by Nebraska radio and television stations.
