The 20th anniversary of the radio station's 24-hour livestream fundraiser will begin at noon May 2.
The Wayne State College student-run radio station, KWSC-FM 91.9 The Cat, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its 24-hour livestream fundraiser from noon Saturday, May 2, to noon Sunday, May 3.
The livestream will raise funds for Haven House of Wayne. Listeners can donate through KWSC-FM’s livestream on Twitch or on the Haven House website.
“All the students are excited for the 20th anniversary of this event,” said Dr. Sean X. Ahern, KWSC-FM advisor and associate professor of communication arts at Wayne State. “We hope we can make this year’s fundraiser especially memorable for Haven House in Wayne.”
Established in 1978, Haven House provides support and preventative services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and harassment. Services include individual advocacy, shelter services, protection order assistance, crisis intervention, and legal advocacy.
The 24-hour stream will take place on the fourth floor of the Humanities Building at Wayne State. Coverage includes comments as participating students play video games, board games, and answer questions submitted via social media. This opportunity provides students learning opportunities as they engage in a different form of media production.
The livestream is also a project through Wayne State’s Service-Learning Program. It’s been a long-standing service-learning event for more than a decade.
