Residence halls are designed to provide a convenient opportunity for students to attend class and to learn and study while living on campus.
There are many benefits we want students to take advantage of by living on campus. To help students start their academic journey and encourage relationships with others on campus, all students under the age of 21, including transfer students, are required to live in the residence halls for a minimum of two semesters and must successfully complete 27 credit hours. Successful completion of credit hours is defined as achieving a passing grade in those 27 hours. Students found in violation of this policy will be charged a penalty equivalent to one semester's room and board at the lowest standard housing and dining plan rate.
Qualifications to live on campus
To live on campus, students must have full-time status, be regularly attending classes and actively engaged with their academic schedule, and be in good financial standing.
Full-time status
Students must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) in order to live on campus. If a student's enrollment drops below 12 credit hours at any time during the academic year, he or she must receive permission to remain on campus.
In the event that a student with fewer than 12 hours becomes involved in the disruption of the safety, security, and good order of the residence hall environment, he or she may be required to vacate the residence hall immediately.
Academic participation
Students are expected to be actively engaged with their academic schedule and regularly attending classes. Should students demonstrate little to no active participation in the majority (or all) of their classes, the Office of Residence Life reserves the right to require students to vacate the residence hall.
Financial standing
Students must remain in good financial standing with the College in order to remain in the residence halls. If a student is found to not have their account charges current as determined by the Business Services Office, they may be asked to leave the residence halls.
If a student is asked to leave, they will still be responsible for a prorated charge based on the length of stay and the meal plan they have used while in housing.
Meal plan requirement
All students living in the residence halls must have a meal plan. Students who believe that individual circumstances warrant an exemption to this requirement should contact the Office of Residence Life.
Meal plan contracts are made for a period of one academic year. Students may indicate their choice of meal plan on their application for campus housing or at the time of registration. Changes in the type of meal plan may be made through the last day for enrollment each semester. Meal plan changes may not be made thereafter during the semester.
Exemptions to the residency requirement
Students seeking an exemption to the residency requirement must submit an application for a residence hall waiver form available upon request through the Office of Residence Life. Types of students who may be exempted from this requirement are:
- Married students
- Students who are single parents with custody of children
- Students enrolled in exclusively online courses in the current semester
- Part-time students enrolled in less than 12 credit hours in the current semester
- Students living with parents or legal guardians and commuting to campus
- Transfer students who have at least 27 credit hours from an accredited college and have lived in a campus residence hall for one full academic year at a previous institution
