About the Physical Education degree program
Wayne State College’s Physical Education degree prepares students to become P.E. teachers through a combination of health and human performance coursework, teacher preparation, and hands-on classroom experience. Students can choose a Physical Education subject endorsement for grades PK-6 or grades 7-12 and earn either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
Students study areas such as anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor development, fitness and sports activities, instructional methods, classroom management, and adapting physical education for students with different needs and abilities.
Future teachers gain experience in schools through field experiences embedded throughout the educator preparation program, followed by a semester of clinical practice, or student teaching. Wayne State students also have access to the Northeast Nebraska Teacher Academy (NENTA), which provides eligible students an opportunity to work as paid substitute teachers while completing their degree.
Graduates are prepared to pursue teacher certification and careers teaching physical education in elementary, middle, and secondary schools.
