Career Fair
Prepare for the Fair
Attending a career fair is more than just trying to land a job. Career Fairs are a great way to learn about career opportunities, find internships, network with professionals, and even receive career advice from professional recruiters.
Sign Up in Handshake
Students are encouraged to sign up for the Career Fair. RSVP for the career fair under the Career Events tab in Handshake (formerly Cat Tracks). Through Handshake, you can create a profile page and upload your resume for employers, search for jobs and internships, and connect with our vendors.
Research Employers
Research the organizations that will be attending by visiting the fairs tab in Handshake. Learn about their mission, services, and recent endeavors to make sure the company is a right fit for you. Doing a little legwork before the fair will not only help boost your confidence and relieve anxiety, but it will also provide you some good talking points with the recruiter.
Update Your Resume
Make sure your resume is polished and ready to go, and have plenty of copies to hand out at the fair. Be sure to include your most recent accomplishments, skills, and experiences. If you're struggling to write a resume, Career Services is available to help. You can also view our collection of sample resumes and cover letters if you need a good place to start.
Practice Interview Skills
First impressions matter when it comes to landing a job. Prepare and practice a 20-30 second introduction speech about yourself to use with employers. Some employers will even conduct interviews on the spot, so make sure you've honed your interview skills and are prepared to answer questions about yourself. Don't forget to dress in professional or business-casual attire.
