Holiday Choirs Concerts

The Wayne State choirs will perform traditional and popular holiday songs the first weekend in December. Tickets can be purchased through Nov. 22.

Tradition and transformation coalesce with a message of peace and goodwill at the 2023 Wayne State College Holiday Choir Concerts.

Cocoa and Carols is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and the Dinner Concert is at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Both events capitalize on the aesthetic ambience and acoustic resonance of the new Dr. Ray Kelton Instrumental Rehearsal Room in the Peterson Fine Arts Building.

Cocoa and Carols features hot chocolate, coffee, tea, water, and an assortment of mints and cheesecake to enjoy during the concert. Tickets are $10 each. In case of inclement weather, Cocoa and Carols will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.

A menu of chicken with Boursin sauce, Yukon Gold potatoes, autumnal green beans, dinner roll, and an assortment of cheesecake precedes the Dinner Concert performance. Tickets are $30 each. In case of inclement weather, the Dinner Concert will be rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10.

Purchase tickets for both events at www.wsc.edu/performing-arts. Orders are accepted through Nov. 22. All sales are final with no exchanges or refunds. Limited seating is available.

Concert repertoire includes time-honored favorites such as “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “Ding, Dong Merrily on High,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The Wayne State choirs are joined by Dr. Matthew Clegg, voice instructor at Wayne State, as tenor soloist. The choirs are conducted by Dr. Matthew Armstrong, director of choral activities at Wayne State. Shelly Armstrong serves as collaborative pianist.
