The exhibit featuring Willa Cather's literary work "My Antonia" will be available in Conn Library.
Wayne State College’s U.S. Conn Library will host "Here at Last Is an American Novel: Willa Cather's My Ántonia," a traveling exhibit exploring the inspirations, creation, and enduring legacy of one of Nebraska's most celebrated literary works.
The exhibit will be on display Oct. 1 through Nov. 15 on Conn Library’s main floor. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to midnight; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 3 p.m. to midnight. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Through historical context, interpretive content, and reflection prompts, the exhibit examines how “My Ántonia” continues to resonate with readers today. Topics include immigration and assimilation, class and labor, rural life, changing landscapes, colonialism, and contemporary conversations about identity and belonging. With translations in more than 30 languages, the novel's worldwide appeal highlights its lasting relevance across cultures and generations.
Everyone is invited to discover the story behind this American classic and explore how its themes continue to shape conversations about the American experience.
This exhibit was developed by the National Willa Cather Center and the Willa Cather Foundation as part of the NEA Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Wayne State College Department of Language and Literature.
