Dr. Michael Genslinger will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Ley Theatre.
Dr. Michael Genslinger will present a faculty trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Ley Theatre, located on the second floor of Brandenburg Hall at Wayne State College. The performance is free and open to the public.
The performance will also be livestreamed.
Repertoire for the recital includes Concertino for Trumpet and Piano by Bernard Fitzgerald; Concerto for Trumpet by George Frideric Handel (transcribed by Willard Musser), a work that was originally written for chamber orchestra; and Tunnel View by Kevin McKee.
Genslinger is an assistant professor of music at Wayne State. In addition to serving as the assistant director of bands, he teaches music education courses and applied trumpet.
Genslinger serves as the principal trumpet for A Touch of Brass, lead trumpet for the Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble, and co-principal trumpet for the Sioux City Municipal Band. He performs regularly with the Sioux City Symphony and performs frequent solo recitals at Wayne State College. He served as principal cornet in the Nebraska Brass Band for the 2023-24 season and has performed with the Ocala Symphony, Carnival Cruise Lines, and as a freelance musician in the southeast United States and Greater Siouxland area.
The concert also features piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist.
