Wayne State College has been named one of the top colleges for Science Education in College Factual’s 2025 rankings, earning the No. 2 spot in Nebraska and ranking No. 5 overall in the Plains States region.

The recognition highlights a program designed to prepare future educators with both a strong foundation in the sciences and the skills needed to bring those subjects to life in the classroom.

Wayne State College’s Science Education degree prepares students to teach science in grades 7–12. As a field endorsement, the program provides broad preparation across multiple scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, Earth science, and physics, rather than focusing on a single science subject.

Students develop skills in scientific research, experimentation, data analysis, laboratory techniques and safety while also completing professional education coursework in areas such as instructional methods, curriculum and assessment, classroom management, and student learning.

Preparation extends beyond the college classroom and laboratory. Science Education students complete field experiences as part of their teacher preparation and later participate in a semester of clinical practice, working alongside an experienced classroom teacher. These experiences allow future educators to apply their science knowledge and develop the instructional and classroom-management skills needed for their own careers.

Graduates of Wayne State’s Science Education program have gone on to teach science in schools throughout Nebraska and the region, including positions teaching high school science, chemistry, and physical science.

College Factual’s Best Colleges rankings evaluate colleges and academic programs using factors related to educational quality and student outcomes. In its 2025 rankings for Science Education bachelor’s degree programs, Wayne State placed among the strongest programs in both Nebraska and the broader Plains States region.
