Wayne State College has been informed of a worldwide cybersecurity incident affecting Canvas, our learning management system (LMS). The incident relates to Canvas data held by a third party, Instructure, and used within our campus and involves unauthorized access by a threat actor.
Our IT teams and Cybersecurity provider are monitoring updates from Instructure to understand any impacts resulting from this breach. At this stage, no data has been released publicly.
There is no suggestion that any student assessment data is affected, or that passwords and single sign-on credentials have been compromised. Instructure also advises that there is no indication that date of birth or financial information was involved in the breach.
Wayne State is actively taking precautions to ensure the security of our portion of the environment.
