The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

The Wayne State College Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The performance is free and open to the public.

The concert will also be livestreamed. The concert program will be available on the event page, which can be accessed from the Upcoming Livestream Events section on the Watch Live page.

The Symphonic Band presents dramatic film and video game themes. The bold, adventurous “Highlights from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” by Howard Shore features a medley of memorable music from the three-movie series. “Epic Gaming Themes,” arranged by Paul Murtha, is an action-packed video game selection. “The Mandalorian” by Ludwig Goransson delivers a suspenseful heroic vibe. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Michael Genslinger, assistant director of bands at Wayne State.

The Wind Ensemble performs emotional, energetic repertoire. “Halcyon Hearts” by Katahj Copley is a dynamic tribute to love, while “Nimrod” by Edward Elgar pays homage to friendship. “Toccata Marziale” by Ralph Vaughan Williams conveys a complex instrumental structure with “Danzón no. 2” by Arturo Márquez fusing Cuban and Mexican rhythms into a vibrant dance. The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Josh Calkin, director of bands at Wayne State.
