Calkin is a professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.

Challenging repertoire spans centuries with each selection requiring advanced technique. “Danza Espanola” by David Uber resonates with rich Spanish-influenced rhythms. The intricate Baroque dance suite “Partita for Solo Flute in A Minor” by J.S. Bach demands dexterity and musicality.

Frank Gulino’s “The Effervescent Ballroom” captures a grand ballroom, complete with sweeping melodies and spirited rhythms. “Rumanian Dance no. 2” by Dumitru Ionel expresses the lyrical contrast between graceful elegance and powerful enthusiasm.

Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist, will provide piano accompaniment.
