Concert Features Student Conductors Dec. 2, 2025

Eight students will conduct the Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

Eight Wayne State College students debut their conducting skills during the Student Conductors Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The performance, free and open to the public, features the Wayne State Symphonic Band.

The concert will also be livestreamed. The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Upcoming Music Events list on the Music Department page.

Student conductors include Grayson Bales of Staplehurst, Neb.; Tyler Baue of Wausa, Neb.; Ian Finley of Ainsworth, Neb.; Abi Hasemann of West Point, Neb.; Bre Matzen of Blair, Neb.; Rachael Nuernberger of Wakefield, Neb.; Andrew Paez of Columbus, Neb.; and Cohan Pietz of Yankton, S.D.

The students gain hands-on experience under the guidance of Dr. Josh Calkin, professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State. Concert repertoire ranges from high-energy to movingly poignant to noble and tranquil.
