Masterful musical dialogue underscores the Wayne State College Faculty Recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Ley Theatre, located on the second floor of the Brandenburg Building. The recital is free and open to the public.
This recital will also be livestreamed. To view the livestream, visit www.wsc.edu/watch-live. The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Upcoming Music Events list on the Music Department page.
The performance features Dr. Karl Kolbeck, professor of woodwinds at Wayne State, on clarinet; Kelly Coslet, adjunct faculty member at Wayne State, on viola; and Dr. Angela Miller-Niles, professor of piano at Wayne State, on piano. Kolbeck will also perform solo works for clarinet and piano.
The concert’s central component is “Kegelstatt Trio” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the first known composition written explicitly for clarinet, viola, and piano. Inspired by friendship, the 1786 composition displays a perfectly balanced virtuosic conversation of instrumental interplay. From leisurely tone-teasing dialogue to full-textured intense engagement to a playful, joyous finale, this mosaic of melodies is an exceptional delight.
