Wayne State College Recognized by NECPA with Platinum Status for Student Alcohol and Substance Use Prevention

NECPA Platinum Status Award Badge

Wayne State College’s prevention programs and data-driven initiatives have earned statewide recognition for promoting student wellness and responsible choices.

Wayne, Neb. – Wayne State College is proud to announce that it has earned Platinum status in the Nebraska Collegiate Prevention Alliance’s (NECPA) Exemplary Member Recognition Program. This distinguished honor places WSC among the leading institutions in the state committed to data-driven, sustainable strategies to reduce high-risk drinking and substance use on campus.

The recognition reflects the college’s continued investment in student health and wellness through evidence-based prevention programs, collaborative partnerships, and ongoing data assessment. One example includes the Power of Parenting initiative, which provides families with resources and strategies to help students make healthy, responsible decisions during their college years. The program encourages open communication between parents and students about alcohol use, helping to reinforce prevention messages beyond the classroom. These ongoing initiatives demonstrate WSC’s long-standing dedication to fostering a campus environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

NECPA’s Exemplary Member Recognition Program was created to encourage and reward Nebraska colleges that deliver high-quality prevention strategies. Recognition comes in five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.

“The NECPA is grateful for our collaborative partners like Wayne State College,” said Melissa Butler, senior project manager with the Nebraska Collegiate Prevention Alliance. “As the NECPA representative and Advisory Board member for Wayne State, WSC has been a fantastic partner who consistently applies data-driven prevention strategies, actively engages in statewide collaborations, and helps strengthen a network of professionals across Nebraska dedicated to advancing student well-being. This Platinum recognition truly reflects Wayne State’s ongoing commitment to creating a healthier, more supportive campus community.”

To achieve Platinum status, colleges must demonstrate data excellence by participating in all three of NECPA’s core assessment programs — Year One College Behavior Profile (Y1CBP), College Behavior Profile (CBP), and the Nebraska Assessment of College Health Behaviors (NACHB).

Platinum status signals that a campus not only runs meaningful prevention programs but also uses rigorous data to guide, evaluate, and improve those efforts. It shows that prevention is not just project-based, but integrated, sustained, and responsive to real evidence.
