The college continued its accreditation with the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering after ATMAE's October 2024 meeting.

Wayne State College was one of several colleges and universities from across the country that continued its accreditation with the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) after showing progress during its annual meeting Oct. 28.

The continued accreditation is for Wayne State’s bachelor’s degree offerings in Industrial Technology for the options of Construction Management, Drafting and Design, Manufacturing Management, and Safety Management.

“I am excited about the (continued) accreditation of our industrial technology program, which not only affirms its quality but also recognizes the expertise and dedication of our faculty,” said Dr. Gerard Ras, dean of Wayne State’s School of Business and Technology. “This milestone highlights our success in construction, safety, manufacturing management, and drafting. It also inspires us to continue expanding our engineering technology and interior design programs with the goal of earning similar recognition.”

Accreditation by ATMAE is a rigorous process that reflects a program's dedication to quality education and preparation of students for successful careers. ATMAE’s accreditation standards focus on ensuring that programs meet high educational standards, preparing graduates with relevant skills for today’s workforce, highlighting the qualifications and experience of teaching staff, ensuring institutions have the necessary tools and facilities for effective learning, and fostering an environment of ongoing enhancement in educational practices.

These accredited programs represent a diverse range of institutions, both domestic and international. Achieving ATMAE accreditation not only recognizes a program’s high standards but also serves as a benchmark of quality for students, faculty, employers, and the communities these institutions serve, according to the ATMAE.

“ATMAE sets the gold standard for programs in applied engineering and technology education,” said Amy Good, managing director of accreditation for ATMAE. “The dedication and innovation demonstrated by faculty, administrators, and students in these accredited programs underscore the commitment required to meet and exceed our accreditation standards. ATMAE is proud to support these institutions and their impact on advancing our field.”

The benefits of ATMAE accreditation include ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the workforce with industry-relevant skills, focusing on student achievement and job-readiness, offering a stamp of excellence that helps attract students and faculty, and assuring employers that graduates from accredited programs meet rigorous standards.
