Conn Library Services

Distance Library Services

As distance students you have access to a wealth of electronic information through our library databases.  You are eligible for additional services, such as having library materials delivered to your home or desktop. We encourage you to use the many resources and services the library has to offer. While student needs will vary depending on course requirements, Conn Library's mission is to provide access to as many resources and services as possible to support.

Accessing WSC Online Resources

To access any of our databases, you will need to enter your WSC username and password when the system prompts you. If you are unsure what your WSC username and password is or need assistance logging in, please contact the Help Desk at 402-375-7107.

Reference & Research Help

Distance students may contact the reference librarian, Valerie Knight, at 402-375-7443 or by email for assistance with research and library resources. Evening and weekend consultations are available by appointment.

Resources and Services

Located on the library homepage, DISCOVERY is your one-stop shop for library materials. Via a single search box you can search all of Conn Library’s physical holdings (books, videos, etc) and electronic holdings (articles, ebooks, etc) at once. Handy filters along the left-hand side allow you to filter by source type, subject, date, and more. To learn more, watch this video demo (starting at 1:16): http://bit.ly/discoveryvid

WSC Library Holdings
Students and faculty also have the option to search our Classic Catalog for books, ebooks and other materials from Wayne State, Chadron State, and Peru State College libraries. A link is available under the DISCOVERY search box on the library homepage. Distance students should use the online ILL form at bit.ly/connILL to request items from CSC and PSC be sent to their home addresses.

Conn Library has an ebook collection of more than 150,000 academic titles, all accessible through the online library catalog. When you locate one in the library catalog, just click on the “Website” link, and login with your WSC username and password. You will be directed to the full text of the book.  All ebooks can also be downloaded to your e-reader or tablet by selecting a “download” link.

Journal Articles & Online Databases
Digital material is a large part of our library collection. See Conn Library Research for our databases containing articles from journals, magazines and newspapers. These tools allow for targeted, detailed research in specific subject areas and provide access to unique resources such as company reports, art images, and streaming music.

Having trouble figuring out which information resources to use? We’ve created a series of online subject and research guides to help you out. Libguides are designed to make it easy for you to find databases, journal articles, websites, citation guides, and other resources for YOUR particular field of study. They also showcase unique resources for distance students as well as some of our newest arrivals! Go to libguides.wsc.edu/connlibrary to discover which guides are available.

Citation Help
Citation example sheets for APA, MLA and Chicago styles and links to other citation resources are available on our citation help page. You can also use citation generators in databases to help you. Be careful to double-check those citations for errors. For some tips and tricks to using APA in conjunction with Word, watch this video demonstration.

As you are researching, you may find it useful to save a list of articles that you found in a database so that you can come back to them later. When you create a MyEBSCOhost account, you can do just that.  Any article from one of the several EBSCO databases WSC subscribes to can be saved together in your own personal folders to be accessed later. To learn more, watch this video demo.

Document Delivery Service
Students who cannot travel to WSC can request library materials be sent to them via postal mail or email. This service can also be used in conjunction with Interlibrary Loan (ILL), which allows you to obtain materials from other libraries that you discovered in another library catalog through an online search or even from an online book dealer.

To request materials from WSC or from another library via ILL, complete the online form. WSC materials will be sent to you within two business days. Allow two to five days for articles and one to two weeks for books borrowed for you from another library. When requesting journal articles, please use a .edu or .org account so we can send them to you electronically and save you photocopying costs.

Borrowing Agreements
Do you live near another college or university in Nebraska? Wayne State College has reciprocal borrowing agreements with other academic libraries in Nebraska. These agreements allow WSC students to check out materials directly from those libraries. View a list of participating libraries and participation rules

Student ID Cards
Student ID cards are not required for using Document Delivery or Interlibrary Loan services. However, if you should visit the library in person or borrow materials directly from another academic library via our reciprocal borrowing agreement, you will need to have a WSC Student ID card. ID Cards can be obtained at the Campus Service Center during normal Library hours.

WSC students, who are either Nebraska residents or currently living in Nebraska, can participate in the NebrasKard program which allows them to borrow library materials directly from participating university and public libraries without being a resident in that community. This is an excellent choice for you if you travel frequently; commute for work or to a learning community; shop in more than one community; use medical, recreational or other services in more than one community; or just want to use more than one library. Learn more about the program and view a list of participating libraries.

To receive your own NebrasKard, complete the NebrasKard Library Customer Registration Form and send it to:
