Distance Library Services

Distance Services and Resources

As distance students you have access to a wealth of electronic information through our library databases. You are eligible for additional services, such as having library materials delivered to your home or desktop. We encourage you to use the many resources and services the library has to offer. While student needs will vary depending on course requirements, the librarians and staff at Conn Library are committed to assisting all students with their library-related needs.

Library Contact
Distance students may contact reference librarian Valerie Knight at 402-375-7443 or [email protected] for assistance with research, citations, and library resources.

Online Access
To access DISCOVERY or any of our databases, you will need to enter your WSC username and password when the system prompts you. If you have any difficulty logging in, contact the WSC Service Center at 402-375-7107 or [email protected].

Online Writing Help Desk
Holland Academic Success Center’s Writing Help Desk helps students clarify concepts, improve critical thinking, develop paragraphs and transitions, work on organization, increase vocabulary, incorporate and correctly document secondary sources, and write logical, grammatically correct, clear sentences. For papers eight pages or less in length, an online Writing Help Desk is available during the week by emailing [email protected]. View submission guidelines.

DISCOVERY
Located on the library homepage, DISCOVERY is your one-stop shop for library materials. Via a single search box you can search all of Conn Library’s physical holdings (books, videos, etc) and electronic holdings (articles, ebooks, etc) at once. Handy filters along the left-hand side allow you to filter by source type, subject, date, and more. Visit our online guide for details and video tutorials.

Subject-Specific Databases and Tools

View a list of subject-specific article databases and research tools. These tools allow for targeted, detailed research in specific subject areas and provide access to unique resources such as  company reports, art images, and exam study materials.

Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan

Students who cannot to travel to WSC can request library materials be  delivered to their home via two different ways:

  1. Use the Interlibrary Loan online form on our library homepage, being sure to select “Delivered Off-Site." This form works BOTH for materials housed at WSC Library and items that we request from other libraries for you.
  2. Click on the internal ILL link found next to certain results in DISCOVERY (journal articles only).

Physical items at WSC will be mailed to you within three business days. If we need to request items from another library for you, please add an additional one to two weeks. Journal articles arrive electronically in two to three days.

Ebooks
Ebooks can be a wonderful resource, providing you electronic access to physical books without needing to physically come to the library. You'll find hundreds of thousands of them when searching in DISCOVERY.  Not only can you read and browse these books online, but you can also use search within features, take notes online, print sections for your personal use, and download copies to read offline. MyEBSCOhost
As you are researching, you may find it useful to save a list of resources that you either found in DISCOVERY or another database so that you can come back to them later. When you create a MyEBSCOhost account, you can do just that.  Any item listed in either DISCOVERY or one of the many EBSCO databases to which WSC subscribes can be saved together in your own personal folder to be accessed later. To learn more, watch this video demo.

LibGuides
Having trouble figuring out which information resources to use? We’ve created a series of online subject and research guides to help you out. Libguides are designed to make it easy for you to find databases, journal articles, websites, citation guides, and other resources for YOUR particular field of study. They also showcase unique resources for distance students as well as some of our newest arrivals! Discover which guides are available.

Citation Help
Citation example sheets for APA, MLA, and Chicago styles and links to other citation resources are available on our citation help page.

Detailed overviews and video tutorials on paper formatting, in-text citations, and reference/work cited lists are also available online for APA and MLA. Students may also request a librarian review in-text citations and reference lists for assignments by emailing Valerie Knight.

MyEBSCOhost

Library Links in Google Scholar
Google Scholar can be a useful tool for research. However, did you know you can set it up to let you know if WSC has a full-text copy of the item you find? Learn More

Borrowing Agreements
Do you live near another college or university in Nebraska? Wayne State College has reciprocal borrowing agreements with other academic libraries in Nebraska. These agreements allow WSC students to check out materials directly from those libraries. View a list of participating libraries and participation rules.

Student ID Cards
Student ID cards are not required for using Document Delivery or Interlibrary Loan services. However, if you should visit the library in person or borrow materials directly from another academic library via our reciprocal borrowing agreement, you will need to have a WSC student ID card. ID cards can be obtained at the Campus Service Center during normal library hours.
