Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • The first 250 plates are complimentary, with the fees being covered by the Wayne State Foundation. After that, the specialty plate will cost $40 per year, plus standard registration fees. Some counties may add small fees (e.g., production or early registration fees).

The current rate of specialty license plate fees is subject to change annually by the DMV office. It is charged each year that you choose to have a specialty plate. Each county in Nebraska has different additional fees that may apply. Please contact your county treasurer’s office for information related to fees that may be incurred when renewing your registration.

  • Custom messages are not available with the first 250 complimentary license plates. The DMV assigns alphanumeric numbers. After receipt of the initial 250 applications and public offering of the plates, plates may then be ordered with an available message of the applicant's choosing.

  • Wayne State College specialty plates are available only for vehicles registered in Nebraska. Specialty plates can be placed on cars, pickups, SUVs, vans, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, autocycles, trailers, minitrucks, and mobile homes.
