The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a grant program that allows students to pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad. In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds.
The Fulbright Student Program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing students to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.
During the year abroad students will meet, work, live with, and learn from people of the host country. Through engagement in the community, students interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.
Award benefits
Fulbright grants provide round-trip transportation to the host country, language or orientation programs (when applicable), a monthly stipend for the length of the award, and supplemental health and accident insurance. Based on award country, additional benefits may be available.
Eligibility and Application
Wayne State College students in their senior year are encouraged to apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to pursue independent research projects or to assist English language teachers in classrooms across the globe. From business to performing arts, students in all academic fields have the potential to receive a grant to travel abroad. Students need not have a teaching background to qualify!
To apply, students must be in their senior year at WSC and prepare a Fulbright application in the summer for submission by early September. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent before the start date of the grant.
