Nebraska students in grades K-12 within Educational Service Units 1, 4, and 13 have free access to online tutoring with a qualified tutor in specific subject areas. Students can request pre-scheduled appointments with a tutor or log in to be connected with the next tutor available in the queue. Students should provide homework for which they wish to receive help or topics that they would like to cover.
To schedule an appointment, parents must initially register their student(s) before they can receive tutoring services. Once registered, students, or parents on behalf of students, can schedule a tutoring session at least 24 hours in advance. Students can join on-demand tutoring to be connected with the next available tutor.
Parents can register their student(s) on the Nebraska SMART website. From here, students can connect with the next available tutor and schedule a tutoring session.
Tutoring is offered from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays during the Spring 2024 semester through May 3.
Tutors are full-time students at Wayne State College who have been admitted to the teacher education program, have completed background checks, and received training through their teacher education program coursework.
The Nebraska Department of Education has awarded a grant to the Nebraska State College System to develop a program that provides tutoring to students in grades K-12 in Educational Service Units 1, 4, and 13. Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State College each have up to 10 tutors and a faculty coordinator.
