Numbers of freshmen and graduate students increased over last year, with the freshman class setting a record as the second largest in more than 50 years.
Wayne State College welcomed 803 new freshmen this fall, an increase of 6.6 percent over last year and the second-largest freshman class in more than 50 years. Graduate students also grew to 550, a 2.8 percent increase over last year. Additionally, as Wayne State continues to work with adult learners, we are excited about the students who have decided to return to Wayne State to complete their degree.
Stronger graduation rates, new pathways to complete degrees faster, and high school dual credit courses mean students are achieving their credential sooner, which is a positive development for their financial situation and their ability to transition into the workforce. This is also positive for our region since 81 percent remain in Nebraska upon graduation, based on survey results.

Our enrollment this year reflects the opportunities, value, and people that make Wayne State a place where all students can see what's possible for their future.”
Student demographics from 2025 show that 45 percent of our students are the first in their family to pursue a bachelor’s degree, 41 percent are low-income, 18 percent are nontraditional, and 5.4 percent are international students.
The College has continued to keep costs down while delivering high-quality educational experiences for our students. In fact, 44 percent of Wayne State students graduated with zero student loan debt last year. Average student debt for WSC graduates last year was $17,281. The average student loan debt across Nebraska last year was $32,206 and the national average was $39,075.
Douglas, Madison, Dakota, Sarpy, and Hall are the top 5 counties of origin for Wayne State students from Nebraska. Iowa sends the most students from outside the state, followed by South Dakota and Minnesota. Wayne State also attracts international students from 63 countries.
