'Communication Carnival' Planned for March 17-18, 2026

Communication Carnival offers events celebrating connection, dialogue, and advocacy.

Wayne State College’s Communication Carnival will celebrate connection, dialogue, and advocacy Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17-18, with three collaborative events. All are free and open to the public for attendance and participation. Wayne State students earn credit for event attendance.

World Speech Day kicks off the carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Kanter Student Center atrium. This annual event salutes freedom of expression. Participants are encouraged to speak freely on any topic. World Speech Day is a global event promoting public speaking and the expression of ideas to foster a better world.

“Communication and … “ will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Humanities Building’s second-floor lounge. This event features a panel of area professionals and Wayne State alumni sharing career advice. Luke Virgil offers his expertise as economic development director for the city of Wayne and his past newsroom experience. Wayne State alumni panelists include Becca Arkfeld, promotions director and morning show co-host at US92 radio in Norfolk, and Catarina Siravo, a law school student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Explore PR and Service Learning” takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the Humanities Building’s second-floor lounge. This event will be hosted by the Wayne State student club Wildcat PR in ACTion. Discussions include student experiences, tools and tricks applicable to any class assignment, a hands-on Canva tutorial, and prospective scholarship opportunities.
