Wayne State College’s “An Evening of Choirs” will present a blend of spirituals, folk songs, musical theater, and contemporary works at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Ley Theatre, located on the second floor of Wayne State’s Brandenburg Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will also be livestreamed. To view the livestream, visit the Watch Live page. A downloadable PDF of the concert program will be posted on the event page when it becomes available. The event page can be accessed from the Upcoming Livestream Events section on the Watch Live page.

The Wayne State Concert Choir’s uplifting rendition of “With a Voice of Singing” by Martin Shaw christens the performance. The ensemble then follows with the sentimental “Where Is Love?” from the musical “Oliver!;” the Civil Rights Era protest song “Woke Up This Morning,” arranged by Jeffrey Douma; and the jazz-infused gospel of “Over in the Gloryland” arranged by Moses Hogan.

Lyrica delivers the dynamic rhythm of “Come to the Music” by Joseph Martin and the haunting Scottish folk song “Skye Boat Song” arranged by Paul Langford. Fortis entertains with barbershop classics such as the up-tempo classic “Ja-Da” and the close harmonies of “Swingin’ Down the Lane.”

The Chamber Choir presents the high-energy “As Long As I’m Singin’” by Bobby Darin, arranged by Kirby Shaw, from the 2025 Broadway musical “Just in Time.” Selections from the Academy Award-winning film “La La Land” round out the Chamber Choir’s performance.

Dr. Matthew Armstrong conducts the concert with piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist.
