The Wayne State College Brass and Percussion Ensembles present a concert abundant in splendor, tradition, and holiday spirit at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

Brass Knuckles Quintet performs the well-known “Die Bankelsangerlieder” arranged by Robert King, the traditional jazz spiritual “When the Saints Go Marching In” arranged by Keith Krueger, and the popular wedding march “Rondeau” by Jean Joseph Mouret. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Melissa Derechailo, instructor of music at Wayne State.
The Trumpet Ensemble captures the grandeur and pageantry of “Hilarity Fanfare” by G.E. Holmes, the Celtic richness of “Loch Lomond” arranged by G.E. Holmes, and the joy-inspired “Song of the Lark” by Felix Mendelssohn. The ensemble is directed by Michael Genslinger, assistant professor of music and assistant director of bands at Wayne State.
Repertoire performed by the Low Brass Choir includes the lively “Scherzo Caprice” by Paul Koepke, the dramatic yet playful “Chorale from Die Meistersinger” by Richard Wagner, and the triumphant “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Josh Calkin, professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.
Spirited selections dominate the Percussion Ensemble’s performance. Repertoire features the thrilling journey of “Magic Carpet” by Vince Gassi, the melodically-driven “Bayport Sketch” by Jared Spears, the relentless energy of “Wizards in Winter” by Paul O’Neill and Robert Kinkey, and the festive French carol “Ding! Dong! Merrily On High.” The ensemble is directed by Brad Weber, adjunct instructor of music at Wayne State.
