Learning current and in-demand skills on the latest technological equipment is why Dr. Molly Curnyn says students should enroll in Wayne State’s computer technology courses. Curnyn, a professor of computer technology at Wayne State, is this week’s subject of the Faculty Spotlight Series.

“Students choose Wayne State for a computer technology information systems (CTIS) degree because we offer updated programs that ensure they are learning current and in-demand skills needed in the tech industry,” said Curnyn, who started teaching at Wayne State in 2008. “Our program has been recently revised to incorporate emerging technologies like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, preparing graduates for tech careers. Students will experience a learning environment that features modern labs, specialized technology infrastructure, and industry-standard hardware and software, giving them practical hands-on experience.”

“The CTIS department has dedicated faculty members who bring academic rigor and industry experience into the classroom,” continued Curnyn. “We are committed to personalized instruction, mentoring, and ensuring every student has the hands-on opportunities needed to master concepts. Enrolling at WSC means joining a supportive campus community that promotes both academic success and personal growth. Beyond the classroom, students have opportunities for internships, networking, and participating in technology clubs and competitions.”

Curnyn said the significance of a Wayne State degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems lies in providing students with the technical and analytical skills necessary to compete in a technology-driven economy. Nearly every industry, from finance to manufacturing, relies on information technology solutions, creating a constant need for qualified computing professionals.

A lot of those professionals are Wayne State alumni. They have found careers in nearly every sector, including finance, education, manufacturing, criminal justice, retail, and healthcare. Wayne State alumni hold positions such as director of information systems, chief information officer, IT department head, information technology officer, systems development supervisor, director of technology, and technology specialist.
