Band Concert Honors Heritage and Childhood Nov. 18, 2025

The concert, featuring the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, is at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

The Wayne State College Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will honor heritage and childhood through expressive repertoire at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building on campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Symphonic Band pays tribute to American settlers in “The Pioneer’s Passage” by Robert Sheldon. Repertoire also includes the colorful seafaring melody “Sea Song Trilogy” by Anne McGinty and the rich cultural tapestry of “Norwegian Folk Song Suite” by Frank Erickson. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Michael Genslinger, assistant professor of music and assistant director of bands at Wayne State.

The Wind Ensemble presents “Children’s Voices” featuring repertoire cherishing the child in all of us. Selections include the whimsical “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger, the powerful “Watchman, Tell Us of the Night” by Mark Camphouse, and the charming “A Child’s Embrace” by Charles Rochester Young. The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Josh Calkin, professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.
