The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.
Iconic jazz songs packed with driving rhythm will highlight Wayne State College’s jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The performance is free and open to the public.
The concert will also be livestreamed. The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Upcoming Music Events list.
The Wayne State Jazz Ensemble’s repertoire will include the exhilarating “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by Don Raye and Hughie Prince; the optimistic “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin; and the exuberant “Jump, Jive an’ Wail” by Louis Prima.
Wayne State’s Jazz Combo will follow with the quintessential “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)” by Duke Ellington and the jazz-influence, bossa nova “The Girl From Ipanema” by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The group also presents the contemplative “I Think I Like When It Rains” by WILLIS, arranged by Ryan Johnson of Doniphan, who is majoring in Music Education at Wayne State.
The ensembles are conducted by Michael Genslinger, assistant professor of music and assistant director of bands at Wayne State.
