A love of working with numbers has put Jenna Jackson on a career path toward an accounting profession. Jackson, a sophomore from Crofton, Neb., who is majoring in Business Administration/Professional Accountancy and Finance at Wayne State, is this week’s subject of the Student Spotlight Series.
“I knew that I always wanted to do something with numbers because I enjoyed figuring out problems and finding solutions,” said Jackson. “I really started to think about going into accounting as a high schooler. It began by investigating jobs that dealt with a lot of numbers and accounting was one of them that caught my eye. I then took an accounting class in high school, and my interest grew.”
While working with numbers played a big role, Jackson still wanted to help people.
“Numbers led me to choose accounting as my field of study, but I also wanted to find a way to be helpful toward others though my career,” said Jackson. “By being an accountant, I can help clarify some of the confusing financial information that one may come across. This allows me to help others while still pursuing my interest in numbers.”
When it came time to choose a college, all the numbers added up to Wayne State College.
“I chose Wayne State College for several reasons,” said Jackson. “I was drawn to the sense of community that the college offers. I also liked the location because Wayne State is in a great town and close enough to home that I can still attend my brothers’ school events. At Wayne State, I’m able to get a degree in Business Administration with concentrations in both Professional Accountancy and Finance.”
Jackson said she’s been impressed with Wayne State.
“The thing that’s impressed me the most about Wayne State is how personable the faculty are,” said Jackson. “In the short amount of time I’ve been here, I have made relationships with many of my professors, and they continue to say ‘hi’ to me whenever we cross paths and ask me how I am doing. This is something that makes Wayne State feel more personable than other colleges, and I am grateful for that.”
At Wayne State, Jackson is active in Wildcat Catholic (Newman Club), Future Business Leaders of America, and intramurals. She also serves as a Peer Tutor for business/economics and math courses for the Holland Academic Success Center at Wayne State.
Jackson is scheduled to graduate in May 2028, and she intends to return to the Crofton area and work as a certified public accountant.
