Dr. Angela Miller-Niles and Shelly Armstrong will perform "Duos by Women from the Americas" at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
Deux Femmes Pianistes present “Duos by Women from the Americas” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building at Wayne State College. The concert is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed.
The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Upcoming Music Events list on the Music Department page.
The concert features Dr. Angela Miller-Niles, professor of piano at Wayne State, and Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s staff accompanist.
Repertoire manifests folklore and tradition through rhythm and melody. Haitian Canadian Carmen Brouard’s “Nuits sous les tonnelles d'Haiti” revels in Haitian style. “Seis Cantos de los Campos” by Gabriela Lena Frank, an American composer with Peruvian heritage, is a virtuosic celebration of Peruvian folk songs. American composer Libby Larsen’s “Ghosts of Old Pianos” imagines ghostly renditions from four different antique pianos across the U.S.
The concert was originally set for Oct. 6 but was moved due to scheduling conflicts.
