This version of Edmond Rostand’s late 19th century play was translated by Barrett H. Clark and adapted by Mollie Young, adjunct professor of theatre at Wayne State.
Known for its poetic style and engaging plot, the play follows two young lovers whose parents harbor a longstanding feud. The hostility triggers obstacles for their blossoming romance reminiscent of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Misunderstandings, plot twists, and musings about the true nature of infatuation vs. love, theatre vs. real life escalate. Created with bilingual elements, this farcical delight amuses English and Spanish speaking audiences alike. The play’s runtime is about one hour.
