Michael Genslinger Recital Set for September 22, 2025

The trumpet recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Ley Theatre.

Power, poignancy, and playfulness will punctuate Michael Genslinger’s faculty trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in Ley Theatre, located on the second floor of Wayne State College’s Brandenburg Building. The performance is free and open to the public.

Repertoire includes “Soaring” by Sean O’Loughlin showcasing a spirited musical conversation between trumpet and piano. John Williams’ “With Malice Toward None,” from the motion picture “Lincoln,” captures President Lincoln’s call for reconciliation with an engaging folk/hymn-like blend. Eric Ewazen’s “Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Brahms” demonstrates a playful dance between trumpet and piano paying homage to the music of Brahms and Bach. “Concerto in E-flat” by Franz Joseph Haydn transcends the boundaries of trumpet capabilities highlighting Genslinger’s virtuosity.

The concert also features piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist.
