Sigma Beta Delta Inducts Four on April 10, 2025

Two students, a staff member, and a community member were inducted into the scholastic business honor society.

Wayne State College’s chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, the scholastic business honor society, inducted two students, a staff member, and a community member during the honor society’s induction ceremony April 10.

Students inducted were Emily Woockman of Wausa, Neb., and Gina Wragge of Pierce, Neb.

Woockman, a 2022 graduate of Wausa High School, is a Wayne State junior majoring in Agribusiness and Economics. She is also active in Delta Sigma Pi, Alpha Lambda Delta (honor society for first-year academic success), Phi Kappa Phi (honor society for all academic disciplines), the Cooperative Education Career Scholars Program, and the Wayne State Student Senate.

Wragge, a 2022 graduate of Pierce High School, is a junior majoring in Professional Accountancy and Finance at Wayne State. She is also active in Phi Kappa Phi (honor society for all academic disciplines), the National Society of Leadership and Success, Alpha Lambda Delta (honor society for first-year academic success), the Wayne State Honors Program, Catholic Newman (Wildcatholic), and intramurals.

John Vinchattle, assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Wayne State, was the staff member inducted. Vinchattle was inducted for outstanding distinction in business, management, or administration, and he has been employed at Wayne State since 2018. Vinchattle earned his bachelor’s degree in Technology Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and his master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Wayne native Karla Hix was the honorary community member inducted for outstanding achievement. Hix is the assistant registrar for Wayne State’s Records and Registration Office, and she has worked at Wayne State for more than 30 years. Hix has been the assistant registrar since 2004.

“It makes me happy when I can contribute to students’ success and graduation by providing practical support and personal encouragement,” said Hix. “Some of my greatest friendships in life began as working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators at Wayne State. All four of my children attended Wayne State, and my husband, Dave, is a faculty member.”

The mission of Sigma Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishments among students of business, management, and administration, and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Sigma Beta Delta was established to honor students who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation.

To be eligible for induction into Sigma Beta Delta, students must rank in the top 20% of their class for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Undergraduate students may be inducted as early as their junior year.
