Directed by Dr. Matthew Armstrong, director of choral activities at Wayne State, the Chamber Choir is a highly select 18-voice choir. Musical styles include selections from various time periods and languages. This performance features English and Italian Renaissance madrigals; Romantic-era German lied; and modern choral, vocal jazz, and musical theatre selections.
Repertoire highlights include the rhythmic energy of “Strike It Up, Tabor” by Thomas Weelkes and the joyful celebration of personal connections in Franz Schubert’s “Lebenslust” (The Joy of Living). “For Good” by Stephen Schwartz from “Wicked” emphasizes the indelible mark we make on one another with the phrase: “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”
Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist, will provide accompaniment.
