Wayne State College’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society inducted 21 new members during Wayne State’s induction ceremony held April 3.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines. Membership, by invitation only, is granted to the top 7.5% of college juniors and the top 10% of college seniors.

Chartered in 2006 under the leadership of the late Wayne State President Dr. Richard Collings, Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 299 initiated the following students during its annual ceremony:

  • Cherokee, Iowa – Riley Lubeck
  • Dow City, Iowa – Addie Wood
  • Missouri Valley, Iowa – Peyton Richardson
  • Yankton, S.D. – Adrian Huff, Keyara Mason
  • Clearwater, Neb. – Faith King
  • Columbus, Neb. – Eden Broberg, Hailey Hoffman, Justin Mohrmann, Macy Schatz, Hunter Schoch, Travis Schoch
  • Friend, Neb. – Carissa Choyeski
  • Hartington, Neb. – Parker Albers
  • Hoskins, Neb. – Kylie Cautrell
  • Pierce, Neb. – Gina Wragge
  • Polk, Neb. – Gordona Howell
  • Springfield, Neb. – Paige Lingle
  • Valley, Neb. – Blaire Hilbers
  • Waterbury, Neb. – Caiden Bellows
  • Wausa, Neb. – Emily Woockman

Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on approximately 300 college and university campuses.

Since its founding, more than 1.5 million members have been initiated into Phi Kappa Phi. Some of the organization's more notable members include former President Jimmy Carter, NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence, writer John Grisham, jazz musician Ellis Marsalis and Netscape founder James Barksdale.

In addition to celebrating and honoring academic distinction, Phi Kappa Phi each year awards more than $1,000,000 to qualifying members and non-members through graduate fellowships, undergraduate study abroad scholarships, member and chapter awards and grants for local and national literacy initiatives.
